If there is one thing I have loved doing in my time post-graduation, it is visiting students and giving advice on making a career in arts, entertainment, and culture. I've been lucky enough to be asked back to my alma mater a few times now to speak on my experiences, but this week, I got to travel to Kent State to visit their Public Relations Student Society of America chapter to participate in a Public Relaions in the Music Industry Panel!

Let me start out by saying how honored I was to be on a panel with two incredible people, Hannah Mayer and Kevin Mitchell, who both have surreal careers in the music world. Working at the Rock Hall sometimes feels like working in three different industries at once, so hearing from people who are so entrenched in live music is always fascinating, and I learned so much just from listening to them.
The Kent State students were so respectful and asked such insightful questions of us. The whole process, from being asked to participate to the day of the event, was such a smooth and professional process; it is so clear that the Kent State PRSSA students care about learning from professionals and are driven to further themselves in their work. I am so excited to see where all of these kids land in their futures!
I feel so lucky to have a career that is inspiring to up-and-coming arts and entertainment professionals. Being just shy of three years post-graduation, sometimes I still feel like those students. In truth, I am still learning about my place in this industry and world, but as someone who had advice paid forward to me in undergrad, the best thing I can do is try to equip these students with all of the things I wish I would have known before they set out on their own professional journeys.
Thanks again to Kent State PRSSA for having me! I hope to see you all again sometime soon!
